How long do car batteries last in Brisbane?
Three to five years is the typical lifespan in our climate. Queensland summers are punishing on batteries, and short trips (school runs, drives under fifteen minutes) shorten life further because the alternator never gets the time to fully recharge. If your battery is over four years old, we recommend a free state-of-health check at your next service.
How do I know if my battery is dying?
The common signs are slow cranking on cold mornings, dim headlights at idle, a battery warning light on the dash, the need for a jump-start, or the start-stop system refusing to switch the engine off in traffic. If any of these are happening, get the battery and charging system tested before it leaves you stranded.
Do you bring the battery to me?
Yes. We carry common sizes on the van for sedans, SUVs, utes and 4WDs, and we can order in less common sizes within a day. When you book, give us the make, model and year and we will have the right battery on board.
What about start-stop or AGM batteries?
We fit them. Modern start-stop cars need a proper AGM or EFB battery, not a standard flooded battery, or the start-stop system fails and the battery dies early. We use Varta, Bosch and Century AGM batteries sized for your vehicle.
Can I just jump-start my car and keep going?
A jump-start gets you moving, but if the battery is genuinely flat, the alternator has to recharge it on the next drive, which puts the alternator under load it was not designed for. Long-term, this kills alternators. If your battery needs jump-starts more than once, replace it.
What do you do with the old battery?
We take it for recycling. Lead-acid batteries are valuable to recycle and should not go in landfill. The recycling is included in the job, no extra charge.
